Brazil Film Fest

E começa nessa quinta (27) a quinta edição do Brazil Film Fest em Toronto. Esse ano o tema é a Bahia e o festival vai lançar uma compilação de nova música brasileira pelo selo Afro:Baile Records do DJ Seduce, que será uma das atrações do festival, tocando entre os filmes. Abaixo a lista dos filmes que serão exibidos.

On Thursday (27) the fifth edition of the Brazil Film Fest opens in Toronto. This year's theme is Bahia and the festival will launch a new compilation of Brazilian music by the label Afro:Baile Records of DJ Seduce, who will be one of the attractions of the festival, playing sets between movies. Below is the list of films that will be screened.

O Brazil Vital desse sábado vai sortear um par para Homens com Cheiro de Flor (sábado, dia 1º, às 18h30) e um par para Luz nas Trevas (sábado, dia 1º, às 19h). Ambos serão exibidos no Carlton Cinema em sessões simultâneas.

Mas assistir um desses filmes não é tudo que você ganha. Cada ganhador leva um gift certificate no valor de $40 para ser usado em sessões de uma hora ou uma hora e meia de shiatsu na Lotus Arts and Wellness.

On October 1^st, BRAFFTv will screen two Brazilian films of similar themes at the same time. This Saturday night Brazil Vital will give away a pair for Men Who Smell of Flowers (Saturday, October 1st, 6:30 pm) and Light in the Darkness (Saturday, October 1st, 7 pm). Both will be subtitled and screened at the Carlton Cinema, 20 Carlton Stret, in concurrent sessions.

But watching one of these movies is not all you get. Each winner gets a gift certificate worth C$40 to be used in shiatsu sessions of one hour or an hour and a half at Lotus Arts and Wellness.

O Brazilian Film & Tv Festival of Toronto, o BRAFFTv, acontece dos dias 29 de setembro a 2 de outubro em diversos cinemas da cidade. O Pré-BRAFFTv, como já informamos, acontece no dia 22 de setembro, com a exibição gratuita do filme Estômago na Biblioteca Pública de Toronto da 560 Palmerston Ave.

O festival abre oficialmente no dia 29 de setembro no Tiff Lightbox com o filme Rosa Morena. Para a lista de todos os filmes que serão exibidos, visite o OiToronto.

The Brazilian Film & TV Festival of Toronto, BRAFFTv, runs from Sept. 29 to Oct. 2 at various movie theatres in town. The Pre-BRAFFTv, as already reported, will take place on September 22, with a free screening of the film Stomach at the Toronto Public Library, 560 Palmerston Ave.

The festival opens officially on Sept. 29 at the Tiff Lightbox with the drama Rosa Morena. For a list of all movies to be screened, visit OiToronto.

E vem aí o Brazilian Film & Tv Festival of Toronto, o BRAFFTv, que acontece dos dias 29 de setembro a 2 de outubro em diversos cinemas.  No dia 22 de setembro, o BRAFFTv oferece a exibição gratuita do premiado filme Estômago, com legendas em inglês, em uma das salas da Biblioteca Pública de Toronto (560 Palmerston Ave.) perto da estação de metrô Bathurst.

September 22 is the date for a free pre-screening of the Brazilian Film & Tv Festival of Toronto. They will be screening the Brazilian movie Estomago (Stomach), with English subtitles, in a room at the Public Library at 560 Palmerston Ave., near Bathurst subway station.

Rock Brasília trailer

Saiu o primeiro trailer do documentário "Rock Brasília - Era de Ouro". O filme conta a história do movimento rock que surgiu na capital do país no início dos anos 1980 e marcou toda uma geração, com bandas como Legião Urbana, Capital Inicial e Plebe Rude.

Dirigido por Vladimir Carvalho, "Rock Brasília" traz depoimentos dos grandes protagonistas do período, como Renato Russo (em imagens raras e inéditas), Dado Villa-Lobos, Marcelo Bonfá, Dinho Ouro Preto, além dos artistas que se aproximaram dessa turma, como os músicos do Paralamas do Sucesso (Herbert Vianna, João Barone, Bi Ribeiro) e Caetano Veloso.

The first trailer of the documentary "Rock Brasília - Golden Age" came out this week. The film tells the story of the rock movement that emerged in the capital in early 1980s and influenced a whole generation, with bands such as Legião Urban, Capital Inicial and Plebe Rude.

Directed by Vladimir Carvalho, "Rock Brasília" brings testimonies from the great protagonists of the period, such as Renato Russo (in rare and unpublished images), Dado Villa-Lobos, Marcelo Bonfa, Dinho Ouro Preto, in addition to the artists who got to know them such as Paralamas do Sucesso (Hebert Vianna, John Barone, Bi Ribeiro) and Caetano Veloso.

A good call for our film festivals in Toronto!

Birdwatchers

Filmado no Matogrosso do Sul e estrelando índios Guarani, surpreendentemente “Birdwatchers” não é um documentário. Os índios são atores, bem como quando se vestem em trajes típicos e ficam à beira do rio para turista ver. O roteiro, por mais verídico que pareça, foi escrito pelo diretor chileno-italiano Marco Bechis e conta a história de um grupo de índios Guarani que resolve sair de sua reserva e assentar acampamento na terra de seus ancestrais, hoje um grande latifúndio. Nada de novo no conflito entre brancos e índios, mas o filme aborda o tema de maneira honesta além de tocar em questões como suicídio de jovens índios, reapropriação, alcoolismo entre indígenas e tradições espirituais. A cenografia da floresta, rios e cerrado é muito bem explorada. Há também algumas intrigas sexuais que se mantém dentro da verdade do enredo. Um excelente retrato do Brasil rural e do nosso relacionamento ainda conflitante com o primeiros donos do país. Bechis também criou um fundo para a proteção do índio Guarani.

Filmed in Matogrosso do Sul state and starring Guarani indians, “Birdwatchers” is surprisingly not a documentary. The natives are actors, as well as when they dress in feathers and wait by the side of the river for tourists to see. The script, truthful as it may seem, was written by Chilean-Italian director Marco Bechis and tells the story of a group of Guarani indians who decide to leave their reserve and set up camp in the land of their forefathers, today a large farm. Nothing new in the conflict between whites and indians, but the film approaches the subject with honesty besides touching issues such as suicide of young indians, disappropriation of land, alcoholism among aboriginals and spiritual traditions. The photography of the forest, rivers and fields is very well executed. The movie also has some sexual intrigue that remains within the truth of the plot. An excellent snapshot of agricultural Brazil and our still conflicted relationship with the first owners of the country. Bechis also created a fund for the protection of the Guarani indian.

Rio animado / Animated Rio

Animação bem legal do time que fez Ice Age e que trazem Rio às telas em Abril. Influência dos pássaros em Tres Caballeros, embora eu não me lembre de nunca ter visto uma fragata no Brasil... Dirigido pelo brasileiro Carlos Saldanha e com músicas de Sérgio Mendes.

Pretty cool animation from the team who made Ice Age and now bring Rio to the big screen. Some influence from the birds in Tres Caballeros, even though I don't remember ever seeing a frigate in Brazil. By Brazilian director Carlos Saldanha with songs by Sergio Mendes.
