DJ and researcher Daniel de Mello, from the Federal University of Goiás, talks a bit about the history of samba and choro. As an aside, some say samba has its origins in the semba, an ancient dance from Angola in which partners rub their navels together. In the African language Kimbundu, semba also means “pleasant, charming” and in the Kikongo language it means “honor, reverence.”

Ei!
